Palm Tree Trimming

Palm trees are part of what makes the Inland Empire feel like home, but they need regular care to stay healthy, safe, and good-looking. Dead fronds pile up fast, attract rats and pests, and become a real fire risk once the Santa Ana winds kick in. At Loma Linda Tree Removal, we trim, clean, and remove palms of every size for homeowners and businesses across Loma Linda, Redlands, Colton, Mentone, Rialto, Highland, Grand Terrace and San Bernardino. Our crew does the job the right way, without over-cutting your trees or leaving a mess behind. Whether you need a yearly cleanup or a tall palm safely taken down, we're here to help.

Palm Tree Trimming: FAQ

Why do palm trees need to be trimmed at all?

Palms don't drop their dead fronds cleanly. Many hang on and build up into a thick "skirt" around the trunk. That skirt looks messy, but the bigger problem is what it hides and what it can do. Dead fronds can fall without warning, sometimes from 40 or more feet up, and a dry Mexican fan palm frond is heavy enough to dent a car or hurt someone. The skirt also becomes a home for rats, roaches, pigeons, and other pests that end up near your house.

Are dead palm fronds a fire hazard?

Yes, and in the Inland Empire this is one of the biggest reasons to trim. Dry fronds catch fire easily, and during Santa Ana wind season embers can carry burning fronds to roofs, fences, and neighboring yards. Keeping dead material cleared out is one of the simplest things you can do to lower fire risk around your home.

How often should palm trees be trimmed?

Most palms in our area do well with one trimming a year. Fast growers like Mexican fan palms sometimes need it more often, especially if they drop seed pods heavily or sit near a walkway, pool, or roof. We'll look at your trees and tell you honestly what schedule makes sense.

When does a palm tree need to be removed instead of trimmed?

Removal makes sense when a palm is:

  • Dead or dying (the center spear is brown or the crown has collapsed)
  • Diseased in a way that can spread to other palms nearby
  • Leaning badly or damaged after wind
  • Growing into power lines, your roof, or your foundation
  • Simply too tall to maintain safely or affordably

If we think a tree can be saved, we'll tell you. We'd rather trim a healthy tree for years than remove one that didn't need to go.

Do you remove palm tree stumps?

Yes. Palm stumps behave differently from regular tree stumps; they're fibrous and the roots don't regrow like other trees. We can grind the stump below ground so you can plant, pave, or lay sod over the spot.

What about palms near power lines?

Never trim a palm that's touching or close to power lines yourself. Only specially trained line-clearance workers should work near energized lines. Call your utility company first, and we can coordinate with them so the job is done safely.

How much does palm tree trimming cost?

Price depends on the height of the palm, the type of palm, how many fronds and seed pods need removal, how easy the tree is to reach, and whether there are power lines or structures nearby. We give free, upfront estimates so you know the cost before any work starts.
